Learning in great outdoors

POTTSVILLE Public School students and teachers are eagerly awaiting the completion of a new covered outdoor learning area.

The new structure is 90% built, will be finished later this month or early next month, and will act as a multipurpose building for the 700 students.

The building so far consists of footings and a large roof covering a concrete slab.

With more fundraising, the school intends to add walls and cladding as well as putting down a multipurpose surface.

So far the works have cost $647,167 and the school needs another $500,000.

As funds become available, the project will have a 1m high platform, multi-court surface for netball, basketball and volleyball, roller shutters and lighting.

It is a landmark for Pottsville and an icon of hope. Our school motto has been fulfilled by the demonstration of courage, truth and loyalty.

Principal Debra McKinnon was as excited as her students about the building being completed.

"This new building is a very exciting addition to our school; it will significantly broaden the opportunities for students and the public," Mrs McKinnon said
