Leader's link to Michael Jackson

VILMA Ryan, the Aboriginal community leader from Goonellabah honoured on Monday with a Seniors Week achievement award, once invited Michael Jackson to visit a preschool where she was working - and he came!

Jackson met with parents, teachers and children at the Murrawina preschool in 1987 when he was touring his "Bad" album.

When Ms Ryan told him they couldn't afford to go to his show, he gave her 100 tickets for them to see him perform at Parramatta.

Ms Ryan was honoured for her lifetime's work as an activist for justice for Aboriginal people.
