Joe O'Keefe's latest EP offering cooked-up at home

LOCAL singer songwriter, musician and music teacher Joe O'Keefe has released eight songs in a new EP called Made With Love.

O'Keefe said the songs were written during a time he was home alone.

"My wife and two kids went to France for six weeks earlier on in the year so I had unlimited time," he said.

"I didn't let anyone know and I set up a studio in the kitchen. I played tunes for six weeks straight."

O'Keefe wrote and recorded the songs from his home at different times of the day.

"One track is called Morning, another one is Afternoon, and there is Nighttime, plus some tracks include some birds that wandered in," he said.

"The EP is very ambient, trying to follow the rhythm of the day."

Made With Love will be officially launched in early 2016.

Originally from the New England area, O'Keefe said he moved to Lismore 10 years ago to study music composition at Southern Cross University.

"I met my wife, who was a French backpacker, and took her over to France for a little bit," he said.

"We had a couple of kids but we keep coming back to this area, because it's such a beautiful place and The Channon is such a great community."

O'Keefe is a music teacher at Richmond River High School.

See him at the Byron Bay Market this Sunday, and at the Recovery Rally Fundraising, at St Martin's Hall, Stuart St, Mullumbimby, on December 12, 11am-6pm, a benefit show for the Boon family, who lost their home in a fire recently.
