Last live tour before becoming a mum in May
SINGER Kate Miller-Heidke is expecting her first child this May, so her upcoming Byron Bay show will be part of her last live tour for a while.
The Melbourne-based musician has been busy lately.
The chart-topping singer and songwriter ended 2015 with two humorous projects: ABC's comedy opera The Divorce and a cheeky Christmas charity single.
The Divorce, a four-part series about a couple celebrating their split with a lavish party, was her first dramatic TV role.
Miller-Heidke also released the humorous charity single I'm Growing a Beard Downstairs for Christmas, recorded with The Beards, to raise money for Bowel Cancer Australia.
She is also bringing her new opera The Rabbits to the Playhouse at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in Brisbane from March 17-20.
The Helpmann Award- winning opera, based on the much-loved book by John Marsden and illustrated by Oscar-winning Shaun Tan, has been brought to life with an original contemporary composition by Miller-Heidke, who also performs in the lead role.
The artist promised the Byron Bay show would be a particularly interesting one, as she is planning to include her favourite songs and some unreleased tunes.
"(The pregnancy) is a bit terrifying but it's also made this tour more special because I know it's going to be quite a while before the next one," she said.
"I'm not sure how much my life will change irrevocably, but I do know this tour marks the end of aparticular chapter for me."
Miller-Heidke said the show would include a selection from many of her music projects.
"It's going to be a mixture, a selection from my back-catalogue, maybe a cover, a song from my opera The Rabbits and a couple of songs that I have written recently and nobody has listened to yet," she said.
"It's great that this tour is happening outside of any major release. I am not touring in support of an album or a single.
"It's just for me and for the fans. It's going to be very special and intimate."
