Larger number of school-leavers enrol for uni in 2013

AN EXTRA 3000 Year 12 school-leavers have applied to study at university next year, compared with 2012.

The latest application figures from the Department of Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education showed more than 147,600 applications were submitted to study in 2013, up 3247 on 2012 figures.

The applications to study at university from Year 12 students made up some 64% of all applications for 2013.

More than 42,000 applications were made by people from a low socio-economic status background, up almost 2% compared to the same time last year, while more than 58% were from female students.

Applications from indigenous students rose more than 4%.
