Four flee large fire in Hobart's northern suburbs

UPDATE: FOUR people have escaped unharmed from a fire which completely destroyed a Housing Tasmania unit at Glenorchy this morning.

Three large heavy pumper trucks have now brought the blaze under control after the unit caught fire about 11am.

Tasmania Fire Service officers estimate the damage at $150,000 after the home and its contents were destroyed in the blaze.

Police are still on the scene collecting statements from those involved.

EARLIER: FIRE crews are battling to contain a large structure fire in Hobart’s northern suburbs.

At least three large heavy pumper truck are on the scene in Elwick Rd Glenorchy and roads have been closed in the area.

The fire is believed to be in a street of housing units.

The fire comes as Hobart braces for four days above-average temperatures.

Today the capital is expecting a top temperature of 27C with the mercury rising to 29C tomorrow, 30C on Wednesday and 29C on Thursday.
