Rovers to take on Alstonville

RICHMOND Rovers may have lost the chance for their men’s side to defend their title in Football FNC’s Tursa Anzac Cup final on Sunday, but tonight their women’s side can claim consecutive titles in their equivalent when they take on Alstonville in the Callan McMillan Shield final at Weston Park from 7.30pm.

The match bears uncanny similarities to last year’s final, when Rovers went in as underdogs against a powerful Villa line-up, but emerged with a stunning 5-1 win to claim the title.

Once again Alstonville goes into the final as favourite after recruiting well in the off season and then sweeping all before them in their pool matches to reach the decider.

The boys grade 16 final will precede the Women’s A division final, with Thistles looking for consecutive titles against Workers from 6pm.
