Ladder-leading 36ers humbled by Melbourne

BASKETBALL: The Adelaide 36ers have kept top spot on the NBL ladder despite a 31-point thrashing at the hands of Melbourne United.

United moved up to second and made it two wins over the weekend following its 79-78 victory over the Cairns Taipans on Thursday.

Former Philadelphia 76ers guard Casper Ware (pictured) was the star of the New Year's Day show at the State Netball and Hockey Centre, scoring 30 points, as the home team continued its hot form, winning 104-73.

Boomers star Chris Goulding scored 20 points, including an amazing three-pointer on the half-time buzzer.

Melbourne shot 41 of 80 from the field including 13 of 33 three-pointers.

Jerome Randle led the Sixers with 21 points, seven assists and six turnovers.
