Labor MPs launch anti-CSG petition
NORTHERN Rivers Federal Labor MPs Janelle Saffin and Justine Elliot have lauched a new petition to have the NSW North Coast declared CSG free.
"Our community's view is clear, we don't want CSG mining in the Northern Rivers and anywhere on the North Coast," Ms Saffin said in a statement launching the petition.
"Let's work together to demand the National Party MPs make the North Coast CSG Free. Please sign the petition and share it with your family and friends."
Ms Elliot said it was important the petition gather at least 10,000 signatures.
"The State National Party MPs are behind the expansion of CSG Mining on the North Coast," she said.
"When we get 10,000 signatures on the Petition the NSW government must debate in the State Parliament our community's demand for a CSG free North Coast."
North Coast Nationals Thomas George (Lismore), Don Page (Ballina), and Chris Gulaptis (Clarence) yesterday said they were willing to meet with and discuss coal seam gas with Ms Saffin after she complained they had failed to respond to letters asking for a meeting.
The state MPs said Ms Saffin's letter had failed to include details on when and where the meeting might be held and accused her of demanding a meeting as "part of a stunt", but they were "more than happy" to sit down with her.
