Kyogle Fairymount Festival revives the memories
THE excitement in Kyogle is almost tangible as the countdown is on to the first Fairymount Festival weekend in around 10 years.
There will be plenty of activities for the whole community starting on the Thursday night November 17, with the Mountain Blue Farms Opening Dinner at Kyogle Golf Club.
Delicious food, local products and a comedian to entertain you for the night.
Tickets are available from Gateway Office Supplies.
On Friday it's Crazy Street Day, sponsored by The Kyogle Chamber of Commerce and Connect Accountant Advisors with a busking competition and shop front dress up using the theme 'Your favourite memory from previous festivals'.
On Saturday the activities explode with kids rides, truck and car displays, a mechanical bull, dance performances and of course the iconic street parade which will happen at 2pm.
"People have been telling us their favourite memories from the festival, when it used to be on, is the street parade,” organiser Jade Lamond said.
"We are also still looking for entrants in the parade and our street performer competition.”
To enter you can pick up a form on the Facebook page or Birkbecks Men's Wear, Kyogle.
Ms Lamond said the preparations are bringing back a lot of memories for people and feedback is that the town is happy to see the festival resurrected.
"It's been well-received by the public,” she said.
"People are talking about it.”
The festival started 50 years ago as a dairy festival.
It has had a few stops and starts over the years with not enough volunteers but Ms Lamond is hopeful that has changed.
"We have a whole new committee and we are young with plenty of energy,” she said.
"We want to recreate what we had in our childhood.
"It's good for the Kyogle businesses and promotes what is happening here.”
The festival was such an icon for the town a book was published in 1987 by the Kyogle Fairymount Festival Committee and compiled by Marie Roberts.
It was titled 'Kyogle Fairymount Festival 1966-1987'.
