Save Ballina’s Koalas file petition of 17,000 signatures

ON Friday Save Ballina's Koalas campaigners handed in a petition of more than 17,000 signatures, for tabling in the NSW parliament later this month.

The petition calls on the NSW government to select an alternative route for the upgrade of the Pacific Highway that does not impact on the Blackwall Range and its nationally significant koala population.

"Time is running out for Ballina's koalas," Lorraine Vass Friends of the Koala President said.

Federal government "approval conditions are keeping the bulldozers at bay", but since Christmas seven koalas are known to have been killed or have died.
