IN A sign of what is to come in the long Federal Election campaign, the Liberal Party has released a pre-emptive attack advertisement online.

The advertisement was released on YouTube on Wednesday, and is titled "dysfunction and treachery".

It shows footage of various senior Labor ministers publicly attacking former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd during the weeks leading up to his failed attempt to return to the Labor leadership in 2012.

Authorised by the Liberal Party's Brian Loughnane, the ad was released to coincide with the 12 month anniversary of Mr Rudd's leadership challenge.
