Friend honours mother and daughter killed in crash

VIBRANT, bubbly, creative and incredibly positive - they touched everyone they met with their effervescence.

This was how family friend of 18 years, David Bleach, described Ivy Bowden and her daughter Bella-Mae.

The 26-year old was in the prime of her life when she and Bella-Mae, 6, were killed in a crash on the Alstonville bypass section of the Bruxner Highway last Friday.

Mr Bleach said family were still struggling to come to terms with their sudden loss.

Ivy grew up at Lismore and attended Lismore Public School and Richmond River High before finishing her schooling at Byron Bay High School.

Mr Bleach said beauty and fashion were two of the Brunswick Heads resident's passions, and she was studying at Kingscliff TAFE.

"Ivy was a really amazing young woman," he said.

"She only ever had kind words to say about people and was loved by people wherever she went.

"Ivy was a kind-hearted, vibrant, generous, friendly, person who had a lot of friends on the North Coast."

Mr Bleach said Bella-Mae was a student at Brunswick Heads Primary School.

"Bella was very bright, very cheerful, friendly and positive."

"She had a lot of friends and was very quick to make friends."

Tributes flowed for Ivy and Bella-Mae on Facebook soon after the crash and flowers were placed at the scene.

Detectives from the Ballina crash investigation unit examined the crash scene and will prepare a report for the coroner.

Ivy is survived by her father Steve, mother Carolyn Mae Swarbrick, brother Leon Ray, and her father's partner Flo.

A date for Ivy and Bella's funeral is yet to be set. A notice will be placed in The Northern Star. The Byron Bay Youth Activities Centre is planning a service to celebrate their lives.
