HE was behind the crocodile that had a bite at Linda Koslowski in Crocodile Dundee and he also created Dexter the match-making robot from the 1980s show Perfect Match.

Not many people, outside family and friends, would know who Kevin 'Mr Big' Thomas is, but he has created some of Australia's most enduring large icons.

Visitors to Glenrowan will undoubtedly have had their picture taken with the six-metre statue of Ned Kelly - another of Mr Thomas's creations.

The Casino resident is also the designer of the post-apocalypse Sydney set on Mad Max III.

"I was an engineering patent maker by trade, which meant I made things to a mould," Mr Thomas said.

"Then I started working for myself and kept taking on jobs and they got bigger and bigger."

Mr Thomas discovered in his 30s that he was actually quite artistic and would make one-off jobs that didn't have moulds.

He became a special effects engineer, where he worked with 3D advertising, in movies and various other items.

"My proudest job would be Ned Kelly," he said.

"I didn't realise how important it was to the town until I was included in the parade to get Ned to where he is now."

Mr Thomas also won a competition with Sydney radio station 2Day-FM when they ran Show us your Agro, named after the popular puppet on children's television.

"I built an Agro peddle car and Jamie Dunn (Agro's puppeteer) was very impressed," he said.

The most recent appearance of Mr Thomas' work locally is the super big motor cycle that made an appearance at the Kyogle Lions Time Trial.

"I saw the photo in the (Express Examiner) and thought you might be interested in knowing about it," he said.

The monster bike is fully rideable, over two metres tall and was built back in 1993, duplicating a Yamaha Formula One machine.
