Rudd to announce Labor line-up

FORMER Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will this afternoon announce Lismore's Labor line-up for the upcoming council elections.

But the big question is not so much who will be standing when Lismore voters go to the polls in September, but how many people will be there to greet the nation's former leader when he arrives at the Red Dove Centre at 2.30pm.

A Facebook event set up by Lismore Deputy Mayor Isaac Smith and Mayor Jenny Dowell so far has 70 confirmed attendees from the general public and another 22 "maybes".

However, the full invitation list runs to a whopping 1341 people and organizations - a crowd that would stretch the Red Dove Centre's capacity somewhat.

Mr Rudd will be given a musical greeting by the band, Horizons, made up entirely of people with a disability, before announcing the line-up and giving his thoughts on local government.

An afternoon tea is being provided, which begs the question: How many lamingtons does it take to feed 1341 people?
