Most hated vegetables may help reduce asthma symptoms

BROCCOLI and brussels sprouts may not be top of the list for family dinners, but eating the vegetables could help reduce the symptoms of asthma, new research finds.

The University of Melbourne research, released on Thursday, showed one to two cups of lightly steamed cruciferous vegetables could reduce and even reverse lung damage.

Among the vegetables studied were kale, cabbage, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, bok choy and broccoli.

The study and laboratory tests found consumption of broccoli could change airway formations and may make clear breathing easier for asthma and allergy sufferers.

While the study was still in an experimental phase, complete findings would be presented at a food safety conference in China later this year.
