Pregnant 16-year-old desperate to find work in Rocky

SHE has spent the last four months looking for a job, but so far not one employer in Rockhampton has been able to help Kayla Diaz out.

And the 16-year-old is starting to get desperate.

With a baby on the way, she is looking for any extra cash she can get.

"I've tried applying for jobs everywhere and it's been really hard," she said.

"Down in New South Wales where I lived (previously) it only took me a week to get a job.

"A lot of places I've applied to here have said they've got too many people already.

"I tried to apply for Centrelink but I'm not eligible to get anything."

Kayla only recently returned to Rockhampton to live with her mum, and said she was looking for any kind of job at all, from retail, fast food, helping small businesses or even just babysitting.

Back in Casino, where she was living, she spent two years working at McDonalds and also helped out with her aunt's cleaning business.

But Kayla is worried being 14 weeks pregnant is causing concern for potential employers.

Her partner, 19-year-old Hayden Creely, is also looking for a job but is currently receiving Centrelink benefits of around $500 a fortnight.

At the moment Kayla's mum is helping them out, but since being struck down months ago with an infection she hasn't been able to work much either.

She was forced to close the nail business she ran while she recovers.

"I'm living in a four bedroom house with 12 people, it's not exactly the environment I want my child to be raised in," Kayla said.

"I'm looking for anything really, just to get a little extra money to put towards the baby."
