KATY Perry has gained more Twitter followers in 2013 than any other celebrity.

The 'Roar' singer added 15 million users to her total of over 48.5 million in the last 12 months, according to statistics released by the social networking website.

Other notable statistics released by Twitter reveal Kanye West's 'Yeezus' was the most tweeted about album, being mentioned in 4.4 million posts, while Miley Cyrus' 'Bangerz' inspired 1,590,351 tweets.

Other celebrities to celebrate a Twitter triumph include One Direction who dominated four out of the top five re-tweets, while 36-year-old Kanye's daughter North - his child with fiancée Kim Kardashian - became a hot topic of conversation throughout 2013 as the six-month-old tot has become one of the most popular hashtags.

Meanwhile, the 'We Can't Stop' singer's performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards - in which she wore a latex bikini and twerked against Robin Thicke during their rendition of 'Blurred Lines' - prompted 18.5 million tweets compared to the 15.7 million posts generated by the Grammy Awards.
