Katie finds awards bit of a yawn

GORGEOUS Katie Bullen is only seven months old but she's already been in two baby shows.

There are now four awards on her shelf, including cutest smile and best dressed.

And she's about to enter her third show - the Ballina Cutie Pie competition, to be at the Cherry Street Sports Club next weekend.

But mum Danielle Bullen, of Tintenbar, is no pageant mum.

"Make-up on four year olds? I don't think so, definitely not," she said.

"These baby shows are not competitive.

"It's just a bit of fun and a chance to show how proud you are of your child.

"I know that Katie will be playing with trucks in the dirt with her brother (Lachlan, 4) before too long, so I'm going to dress her up in cute outfits while I still can.

"Katie hasn't cried at a show yet.

"She's such a good baby.

"At the last baby show I entered her in every category and when we got to the talent section, she was asleep.

"So that's her talent - sleeping."

The Ballina Cutie Pie competition is being run by Australian Baby Shows.

It kicks off at 10.30am on Sunday, August 25, and the cost is $35.

Funds raised are used to support SIDS and Kids.

There are seven different categories, and it is open to children up to 15 years old, with lots of prizes and trophies on offer.

Ms Bullen entered Katie in her first baby show when she was three months old.

"I heard about the event on Facebook, and I thought, why not?" she said.

"After Lachlan, it's been so much fun having a little girl; there are so many cute clothes for baby girls.

"It's fun to choose new outfits for her and get her all dressed up.

"I go a bit over the top, but I'm not ashamed to admit it.

"I think you're lying as a parent if you say that you don't want to show off your child. It's natural to be proud of them.

"And Katie is pretty cute."

Ms Bullen said she would never force Katie to continue with the talent quests as she got older.

Her son, Lachlan, has no interest in getting involved.

To enter the competition, go to the sports club before 10.30am on Sunday, August 25, or visit the Australian Baby Shows' Facebook page for more information.
