Katich keen for Boxing Day Test
SIMON Katich is ready to dust off his baggy green if stunningly recalled to the Test side for Boxing Day after one of the most dramatic sagas in Australian cricket took a twist last night.
Captain Michael Clarke is said to be behind a push to reinstate the deposed opener, according to a report on Channel Nine last night, as Australia seek to address their batting woes after the humiliating defeat to New Zealand earlier this week.
''If the report on Channel Nine that Michael Clarke and the selectors are talking about Simon for Test cricket, whether it be Boxing Day or any other day [is true], Simon would be very excited and I would be very excited for him,'' the batsman's manager, Robert Joske, said last night.
''The coach, the chairman of selectors, have both said the door was always open for Simon and I can't think of a better time than now for Simon to be walking through it."
The 36-year-old Katich has endured a controversial year in which his public approval has skyrocketed while his Test career nosedived.
