Kate hits studio for Christmas smash
COUNTRY idol Kate Cook is close to wrapping up the recording of her first single, with an eye firmly fixed on releasing the song before Christmas.
The Lowood singer has only been away from Australian Idol for just under a fortnight, but said she was looking to get her song out to the public and hit the road touring as soon as possible.
After a busy day of recording at Esk’s Rendition Records studio yesterday, Ms Cook said her first single would the song that earned her a spot on Australian Idol – a tribute she wrote for her mum.
“I wrote it a few months after she passed away, so it’s been kicking around for seven to eight years now,” she said.
“It’s exciting for me now to be able to record and get it out to the public.
“I’ve always just called it ‘Mum’s Song’, but I think I’ll have to give it a proper title now, so it’ll probably be Make You Stay.
“The plan is to have it released on iTunes before Christmas.”
After experiencing her first studio sessions in Sydney as an Australian Idol contestant, she said she was enjoying recording at the Lowood studio, which had cleared its schedule to squeeze her in.
She said she would forego studio trickery and keep the song as a country-style ballad.
“It doesn’t need anything more really than just my voice and the guitar – it’s a simple song but straight from the heart,” she said.
While a few more sessions will be needed to knock the song into shape, Ms Cook said she was also busily preparing for her final performance on Australian Idol.
No date has been set for the finale, which is expected to be held outside the Sydney Opera House, but Channel 10 said it was likely to be in late November.
Ms Cook is expected to sing two songs at the event.
A fixed date for the release of her song, which will be self-released, will be announced on Ms Cook’s Facebook fan page.
She said no music labels had approached her as yet, but said she was keeping her options open after the finale was aired.
