Kangaroo dies after being trapped in CSG pond

A KANGAROO died on Wednesday after becoming trapped in a Metgasco holding pond west of Casino.

After anti-CSG volunteers identified the distressed animal at Shannon Brook, wildlife rescue service WIRES and Metgasco were notified.

An attempt by two Metgasco staff who arrived a short time later to help the kangaroo was a failure as the animal was too weak to move.

Eventually WIRES volunteer Melanie Barsoni was able to assist the animal alongside the two staff by wrapping it in sheets.

Ms Barsoni said the animal was suffering from a fatal condition called Myopathy which affected distressed macropods.

After being rescued from the pond, the animal was taken to a Casino vet to be euthanized.
