Junior World Cup is the goal for former Lismore player

INDIA will be on the mind of former Lismore hockey player Brad Hughes this summer as he strives to make the Australian team for the 2016 Junior World Cup.

Hughes, 19, played his second season for Labrador in the Brisbane Division 1 competition this year and from January 16 to 24 will attend a camp on the Gold Coast for the national Under-21 squad.

After that the squad of 30 will be trimmed to 18 for the Junior World Cup Oceania qualifiers.

Hughes, a midfielder or defender, has also recently been selected in the Queensland Under-21 squad for the national titles in Sydney next April.

Living in Brisbane, he is training with the Queensland Academy of Sport six days a week, in between working as a manager for a suburban IGA supermarket.

In his club hockey for the Labrador Tigerstix he has also come across two former Coraki players, Alex Powell and Ethan White, who has been named in the NSWUnder-21 squad.
