Dolphins claim country title

THE Far North Coast under-16’s Rugby Union side is top of the tree after taking out the NSW Country Championships at Armidale over the weekend.

The team went through four matches in two days undefeated while having their tryline breached for only a solitary five-pointer.

The Dolphins beat Hunter 8-0 in a gritty final, and post-match, fly-half Jake McIntyre was rated best back of the carnival while No 8 Rowan Perry received the gong for best forward.

Nine FNC players – Alex Brown, Andrew Parkes, Fletcher Patterson, McIntyre, Perry (all Wollongbar – Alstonville), Jayden Darke (Grafton), Jack Davies (Lennox Head), James Hewetson (Casino) and Kurt McDonald (Brunswick Heads) – were chosen to attend the NSW Country training camp and selection trial at Myuna Bay in May.

The Dolphins under-17’s side weren’t as successful, winning a play-off for fifth.

Four Dolphins made the NSW Country train on squad: Daniel Damen, Ethen Butler (Wollongbar-Alstonville), Jacob Carter (SCU) and Ben Jamieson (Yamba).

The junior representative season continues over the next two weekends.
