Judge shares show tips

ASSOCIATE orchid judge, John Pitkin, provided members of the Woodburn Orchid Society with a most informative insight into some of the factors to be considered when entering plants in an orchid show.

Mr Pitkin was guest speaker at the society's April meeting and he used an excellent video presentation to illustrate his message.

He was actually passing on some of the things he had learned from his studies towards becoming a fully qualified judge.

As most members submit their orchids for judging at the society's Annual Spring Show (to be held this year from September 14 to 16 in the Woodburn Memorial Hall), the president was speaking for them all when he expressed thanks to John Pitkin for the valuable information he had presented to the meeting.

Brooke Felsch, the society's youngest member, who is keen to learn as much as she can, acted as one of the informal judges on the day.

Mr Wolfgang Strube, an agronomist from Horticultural Solutions, will be guest speaker at the society's next meeting in the Woodburn CWA Rooms on Sunday, May 20 at 1pm.

If you would like to know more about how to keep orchids alive and healthy, then go along and learn about fertilisers.
