JT’s supporters will like the sound of this

NORTH Queensland Cowboys halfback Johnathan Thurston has made the highly unusual move of releasing his trademark laugh as a ring tone - and it is the best thing we have ever heard.

Thurston is known for his infectious Kookaburra-like cackle and quite frankly we can't get enough of it.

So imagine our delight when a media release - from former Daily sports editor and now Cowboys media manager Paul Munnings - came across our desk yesterday informing us of the ring tone's existence.

"It's been a very happy week with the contract extension following the win against the Bulldogs. Hopefully, this puts smiles on everyone's faces leading into the weekend," JT said in a statement explaining the ring tone.

We can report that within 30 minutes of downloading the ring tone, Daily reporter Steve Zemek (pictured left with Thurston at Pelican Waters last month) had played it to the newsroom dozens of times, infuriating many of his colleagues.

If you would also like to frustrate your friends and loved ones by incessantly playing the sound byte, head to johnathanthurston. com.au.

League fans in for a treat

THE old Hunter Mariners connection of Noel Goldthorpe and Scott Hill will turn out for the Noosa Pirates in their trial match with the Maroochydore Swans at Cooroy today.

The pair forms the club's coaching staff this year - Goldthorpe as head man and Hill as his assistant - but they have decided to strap on the boots for the pre-season match.

Goldthorpe and Hill played together at now defunct Super League club the Mariners during their illustrious professional playing careers.

They also both moved to the Coast upon retirement.

It is not expected that they will run around in first grade this year - both say they do not want to push young playmakers out of the side and that their passions lie with helping to bring through the next generation of Pirates players.

However, the sight of the two former NRL stars running around at Cooroy today should prove exciting for fans.
