Photographer Jay Cronan has been named a finalist in two categories – news and sports photography.

Reporters Dominic Feain and Mel McMillan were named finalists in the News Report category, for a piece on Wikileaks founder Julian Assange’s Northern Rivers background and on the growth in the chilling birth condition gastroschisis.

Reporter Ava-Benny Morrison was named a finalist in the Feature Article section for a series looking at the hidden faces on the Pacific Highway and chief of staff Alex Easton made the finals with last year’s 10 Big Ideas series and his work on the subsequent Lismore Base Hospital Stage Three campaign.

Mr Easton last year won the Tom Barrass Award for Regional Journalism.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony at Newcastle on July 23.
