Josh takes a six-for as FNC finishes third

FAR North Coast bowler Josh Haugh took 6-7 to help lead his side to a dominant 92-run win over Hunter Valley on the final day of the Stan Austin Cup Under-16 cricket carnival at Taree.

The win was enough for FNC to finish third.

They were always going to be hard to beat after middle-order batsman Angus Callan hit 53 to help lead his side to a total of 6-189.

Left-arm opening bowler Jaykob O'Connor was one of the best for FNC at the carnival, taking plenty of wickets over the four days.

A 30-run effort from opening batsman Mitchell Pearce saw him awarded player of the match in a third-round win over Manning.

However, a batting collapse that led to a 54-run loss against Mid North Coast proved costly.

"We definitely saved our best for last," coach Ian Callan said.

"Our batting really came on and we were very pleased with the effort.

"We were probably a bit unlucky not to make the final because we only really had one bad afternoon of cricket.

"But I'm sure the boys really learned a lot and enjoyed the week."

The team that travelled to Taree also included Evan Litchfield, John Young, Chris Watts, Jack Turner, Tyson Priestly, Jai McCabe, Lachlan Bensley and Will Barlow.
