BYRON BAY surf lifesaver Josh Brown was selected in the State Under-21 development squad after a strong performance at the NSW Surf Life Saving Inter-Branch Championships at Redhead Beach, Newcastle, on Sunday.

The 15-year-old was part of the Far North Coast branch team that finished seventh overall on 784.5 points.

Sydney teams dominated the 11-branch event, held in tough conditions and solid 1.5m-2m.

Sydney Northern Beaches finished first on 1408.5 points with Sydney second on 1401.5.

FNC captain Jarrad Cain was proud of his team's efforts.

"The Inter-Branch is a good chance for us to come down and race against city competitors before the State championships," he said.

Lennox Head prodigy Tanyn Lyndon and Byron Bay veteran Brodie Moir will compete in the opening round of the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Ironman and Ironwoman Series at Surfers Paradise on Sunday.

Lyndon is making his professional debut, while Moir is competing in her sixth consecutive season.

Lyndon now represents Northcliffe Surf Lifesaving Club with Moire down the road at North Burleigh.
