Join us and say #HandsOff to community violence

THIS Saturday, APN Australian Regional Media newspapers will launch one of their most important endeavours - a campaign that aims to make our streets safer.

And you can each take the first, simple and powerful step as an individual to get it started.

We know one punch can kill. We see the damning evidence of brawls and glassings and other attacks. We are bombarded with messages of what not to do. But not enough people are taking notice.

We want to use the power of ARM across Queensland and northern NSW to make a difference.

During the next few weeks our papers and websites will focus on the causes and impacts, how it affects you and what to do if you or someone you know has been the victim of - or the perpetrator of - a violent attack.

We will also celebrate those who step up and take the #handsoff Promise.

And that's where you come in.

By taking the promise, you pledge:
•        Not to participate in, or condone by being silent, any form of street or late-night violence; and
•        To report any incidents of such violence to the relevant establishment and authorities

It's easy to do - just visit and follow the steps.

Have you, your family or friends been affected by violence? We would love you to share your story.

Your story is the most powerful way to bring about change. You can share your story easily here, on our website, via our Share Your Story page.

If you want you could also make a short YouTube video telling your story and why you support the #HandsOff campaign. Just remember to send us the link so we can share it with others.
