"HUMANITY and equality are not words; they are doing things. To be humane is doing humane actions, that's important," Slice of Life subject John Arkan, of Woolgoolga, told Northern Star photographer Mireille Merlet-Shaw.

"It's like I can say all the stuff about a curry you like, but until you have a product and somebody gets nourishment out of that, then it is a curry, overwise it's just a word."

Slice of Life is all about capturing a moment in time and telling a brief story about our community.

It can be about anyone and anything, at any time of the day or night. These snapshots are of ordinary people.

If you'd like to join in, take a picture of yourself, a friend or relative and tell us something about them. Post it on our Facebook page or email news@northernstar.com.au.
