Mackay fans disappointed by cancelled Waite tour
JOHN Waite has cancelled his Australian tour, disappointing fans in Mackay who were expecting to see him perform at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre.
The former frontman for English band The Babys was set to tour Australia for the first time with his greatest hits tour in March.
American hard rock guitarist Keri Kelli was set to join him on the tour.
The tour, which did not include Mackay at that time, was originally meant to be held in November last year but in October was postponed until March due to "unforeseeable circumstances".
MECC manager Mark Fawcett said no reason had been given as to why the tour was cancelled and they were disappointed by the announcement.
The Grammy nominated artist is most famous for hits Missing You, When I See You Smile, Every Time I Think of You and Isn't It Time.
"It's really disappointing to be honest," Mr Fawcett said.
"It's never good when an artist cancels."
Mr Fawcett said with the entire tour cancelled it had nothing to do with Mackay and all tickets would be refunded.
"At least it was nice and early so not too many people were disappointed," Mr Fawcett said.
"We would love him to come back and we'd welcome him with open arms."
John Waite was just one of several international acts who announced they would be heading to Mackay last year.
Blondie performed at the MECC late last year and KISS and Motley Crue will perform at Virgin Australia Stadium in March.
