Robertson outlines reasons for expelling Obeid, McDonald
NEW South Wales Opposition Leader John Robertson says the "era of Eddie Obeid and Ian McDonald is dead" after he expelled the pair from Labor for bringing the party into disrepute.
In a speech to the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights at the University of Sydney Mr Robertson outlined his reasons for dumping the former ministers, saying the party was "bigger than any transient individual".
A number of allegations have been aired about Mr Obeid and Mr Macdonald during an Independent Commission Against Corruption inquiry the granting of mining licences.
"The public has rightly been well and truly disgusted by what we've seen," Mr Robertson said during his speech, which carried the twitter hash tag #alineinthesand.
"I've expelled Obeid and Ian McDonald from the Labor Party. The era of Eddie Obeid and Ian McDonald is dead.
