Joe rings in a winning start

JOE SCHOFIELD from Maloney’s Glove Club in Lismore opened his boxing career at the Condong Bowling Club on Saturday night with a convincing points win over a game opponent in Leon McMillan from the Casino RSM Youth Club.

Both boys weighed in at 68kg and both have spoken about a return bout in Lismore on September 25.

Also at Condong, Michael Kranicz from the Glove Club was matched with a Queensland boxer who failed to show up at fight time, so Kranicz had to settle for an exhibition bout with experienced Gold Coast boxer Greg Adomadi.

Coach Arthur Maloney was impressed with both his boxers’ performances.

Johnathon Walker of Casino got the better of Tommy Strain of Tweed Heads on points in the main bout.

Walker was named fighter of the night and the contest was voted the bout of the night.
