Jobs are the main topic as candidates talk
JOBS, jobs, jobs.
This week we asked the four candidates for Page to tell us what they will do about employment.
Member for Page Kevin Hogan said jobs were everything for the community and needed to be a continued focus.
"There are over 12,000 small businesses in our region. They employ tens of thousands of people," Mr Hogan said.
"The tax cut we announced in the Budget is to help them grow and employ more people."
"The money I announced re the sale yard upgrades is also about jobs."
Labor's candidate Janelle Saffin said she would protect local jobs as a Federal Labor MP.
" I will build on our strengths, leading a Casino Beef Week promotional tour, helping drive agricultural-horticultural investment and increase value-adding at our abattoirs," Ms Saffin said.
"I will promote the Richmond Valley agriculture-transport hub, invest in schools, and TAFE, deliver the best broadband infrastructure, build future jobs in our renewables sector and protect penalty rates."
Christian Democrat candidate Bethany McAlpine said her party supported jobs offered by local business.
" Removal of "red and green tape" are vital. Political decisions made at the most local level, best represent all community interests," Ms McAlpine said.
Greens candidate Kudra Falla-Ricketts did not respond to our question.
