Jo Cox death: Husband urges supporters to fight hate

THE husband of Jo Cox, the British MP killed while holding a meeting with her constituents, has called on her supporters to 'fight against the hatred that killed her'.

Ms Cox, the Labour MP for Batley and Spen, died after being shot and stabbed outside of a library in her constituency in Birstall, west Yorkshire near to where she held her weekly surgery, or meeting with constituents.

The 41-year-old was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary.

Her death was confirmed by West Yorkshire Police in a press conference.

Before she died, Brendon Cox posted a beautiful photo of his wife on social media with no words.

A few hours after posting the photograph, he expressed his admiration and loss.

"Today is the beginning of a new chapter in our lives. More difficult, more painful, less joyful, less full of love," he said in a statement.

"I and Jo's friends and family are going to work every moment of our lives to love and nurture our kids and to fight against the hate that killed Jo.

"Jo believed in a better world and she fought for it every day of her life with an energy, and a zest for life that would exhaust most people.

"She would have wanted two things above all else to happen now, one that our precious children are bathed in love and two, that we all unite to fight against the hatred that killed her. Hate doesn't have a creed, race or religion, it is poisonous.

"Jo would have no regrets about her life, she lived every day of it to the full."

Ms Cox had only posted about her pride in her husband and two children, who had taken a boat down the river as part of her campaign to keep Britain in the European Union.

Her Twitter feed reveals her passion to support refugees and immigration.
