The name comes from Jessica's maternal grandmother Tina whose maiden name is Drew.

Jessica's family were spotted at a Los Angeles hospital today sparking speculation she was in labour.

The baby is more than a week overdue, having been expected on April 21.

A posting on Jessica's website read: ''Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson.

''We are so grateful for all the love, support and prayers we have received. This is been the greatest experience of our lives.''

Jessica reportedly wanted to have a caesarean birth because she was nervous about how painful it might be.

A source said: ''The thought of giving birth scared the bejeezus out of her. She was so anxious, she was even breaking into cold sweats at night.

''Jessica has no tolerance for pain. She even turned to hypnotherapy to calm her fears about it, but nothing was working.

''She desperately wanted to experience the joy of a natural birth, but decided to go with what made the most sense for her.''

Last month Jessica held a baby shower where she received a number of gifts from stars including Jessica Alba, her sister Ashlee and 'Grey's Anatomy' star Ellen Pompeo.

A source said: ''It was a kid friendly shower with many of her friends bringing babies.

"She received tons of gifts mostly wrapped in pink gift wrap and boxes.

"There were several books, stuffed toys and clothes among other items.''

Guests were treated to extravagant buffet food featuring some of Jessica's favourite cuisine, including deep friend Oreos and Twinkies.
