Jameka v Europeans in 2016 Caulfield Cup

RACING: The Caulfield Cup is generally an extremely open betting race, but for the second year in a row we have a clear favourite.

Talented mare Jameka has been a dominant favourite in the betting market with Ladbrokes since it became clear that Hartnell would be saved for the Cox Plate.

Jameka recorded a dominant victory over a number of her Caulfield Cup rivals in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on September 17 and she was far from disgraced behind Hartnell in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 2.

No favourite had won the Caulfield Cup since Master O'Reilly in 2007, but that drought was ended by Mongolian Khan last year and historically favourites have generally performed well in the feature race.

While Jameka looks to have a clear edge over her local rivals, there are plenty of unknowns about the European quartet of Scottish, Articus, Exospheric and Sir Isaac Newton.

Scottish has been the best-backed of the internationals and there are plenty of similarities between him and 2008 Caulfield Cup winner All The Good, with Kerrin McEvoy to reunite with Godolphin to take the ride.

Articus has German form that looks a level below that of Exospheric and Sir Isaac Newton, who have both raced against some of the best horses in the world this season, but it is fair to say that neither is a particularly consistent galloper and it is very tough to say exactly how they will perform tomorrow.

Locals Sir John Hawkwood, Preferment, Our Ivanhowe and Set Square are all Group 1 winners in their own right and all could be more than competitive in this race if they perform at their very best.

Don't miss out on the excitement this weekend - the Caulfield Cup and Ladbrokes Classic betting markets are now available with Ladbrokes.
