Chance for Rio gold

AFTER a stellar performance and three bronze medals at the Paralympics in Beijing last year, Jacqueline Freney will be competing in the IPC World Shortcourse Swimming Championships in Brazil.

The year 11 student at Xavier Catholic College will travel to Rio de Janeiro as part of the Australian swim team on November 24. Jacqueline will be competing in the 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle, 100m backstroke and butterfly, individual medley, medley relay and freestyle relay.

Earlier this year, Jacqueline set three provisional world records at the Telstra Australian Shortcourse Swimming Championships in Hobart.  

Meanwhile, two other Xavier Catholic College students, Reegan Semmens and Natalie MacDonnell, have enjoyed had success at the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC) Athletics Carnival recently. Reegan, in year 10, took top spot in the 400m.

He also came second at the NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships, and qualified for the Australian All Schools and Youth Championships to be held in Tasmania next month.

Natalie, in year 9, also placed first in 400m event at the carnival, and has qualified for the Australian All Schools and Youth Championships.
