Jack White to bring reunited Saboteurs to Bluesfest

BLUESFEST organisers have delivered an early Christmas present for 2019 ticket holders, dropping a surprise addition to the line-up this morning.

American rocker Jack White will bring his reunited Saboteurs, known outside of Australia as The Raconteurs, to the 30th anniversary event in April next year.

This will be the first time The Saboteurs have played in Australia and they will be armed with their first new music in 10 years when they close out the festival on Easter Monday.

It's a big-name addition to the 2019 bill, with Bluesfest Director Peter Noble revealing he originally approached White about playing a solo show.

White performed at Splendour in the Grass in 2012 and was rumoured to headline this year, which didn't eventuate.

"It's not every day you get to have a simultaneous worldwide announcement of one of the world's great bands, The Raconteurs, known in Australia as The Saboteurs. The members include Jack White, who is someone I have wanted to present at Bluesfest for a very long time," he said,

"In fact, this began as a Jack White headline performance, but literally morphed into The Saboteurs when the guys decided to get back together again after 10 years, and Bluesfest has the only announced show in the world currently."

Jack White, Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler got together in Detroit in 2005 to form The Saboteurs and released two albums, Broken Boy Soldiers (2006) and the Grammy-Award winning Consolers Of The Lonely (2008), spawning the singles Steady As She Goes, Salute Your Solution, Many Shades Of Black and Consoler Of The Lonely.

Byron Bay Bluesfest runs from Thursday, April 18 to Monday, April 22.
