Water skier competes in two races

WATER skier Susan Cartwright will have her work cut out when she competes in the Woodburn Bridge to Bridge this weekend.

The 34-year-old has entered the women's division single ski 40km race and the double-skier 80km race.

"The second race goes to Wardell and back twice," Cartwright said.

"It's tough to do both races, but it's good fun."

Thirty to 40 boats are expected to take part in the two-day event.

Divisions include sub-juniors, social and next generation on Saturday, with women's, masters and juniors on Sunday.

Competitors will come from as far as Bundaberg and Brisbane to take part in the event, which is part of the Tweed Coast Series.

"It's a big event for Woodburn and we're a fast growing sport," Cartwright said.

"I'm lucky I live on the (Richmond) river at Broadwater and get plenty of practice."

Cartwright, an Australian representative in 2009, will be behind a boat appropriately named Slingshot.

Racing from noon on Saturday and 9am Sunday, with drinks at the Rod 'n Reel Hotel, Woodburn, on Saturday night.
