Old Newrybar church - pure heaven at a price
A 102-YEAR-OLD church at Newrybar is on the market for $1.4 million and there has already been plenty of interest in this beautiful building.
Known as The Old Church, it has approval for use as a tourism facility.
Selling agent Nicolette van Wijngaarden from Unique Estates Australia said it would also make a grand home or holiday property.
The main building has three bedrooms and a loft-style living space, as well as a large, modern kitchen.
Ms van Wijngaarden said the main hall featured pressed metal ceilings, as well as "magical timber details".
"The church was built in 1911 and was definitely Presbyterian," she said.
"It survived a cyclone in 1942 without any damage, yet the Methodist church was totally destroyed.
"It was closed and deconsecrated in 1973 as families started moving away from the region and the main church attendance was in Bangalow."
The current owners fell in love with the church 11 years ago and Ms van Wijngaarden said they "bought it on impulse".
They renovated it and turned it into self-contained tourist accommodation, spending about five years to ensure it complied with council regulations.
"The property has been a great passion for the couple," Ms van Wijngaarden said.
