It’s all smiles at clinic with focus on family
IT'S A family affair at Southern Downs Dental, with a father-daughter team working to better dental health in the Rose City.
The family-oriented clinic is owned by dentist Mike Geisel. His daughter Sarah Geisel recently returned to work as a dental hygienist.
Ms Geisel had been away studying dentistry, before giving birth to daughter Sophie nine months ago.
For the aspiring dentist, the decision to return to work hasn't been easy."There's always apprehension when leaving a little one," she said.
"It's really good for me getting back into it; gives me time to keep up my skills.
"I know I've made the right decision."
Ms Geisel has returned to the clinic part-time, working four afternoons a week.
"I've come here to help Dad and provide a service needed in the country," she said.
"I'm really enjoying the work."
With just two years left until she is a fully qualified dentist, Ms Geisel has her eyes on the future.
"I'm following in Dad's footsteps," she said.
"I'll gradually step into Dad's role here as a dentist."
Mr Geisel bought the clinic in 1991.
He moved his family from Brisbane to run the business and it was known then as Mike Geisel Family Dentist.
The business moved to its current building in Wood St, in 2007 - about the time Ms Geisel first joined the team as a hygienist.
Southern Downs Dental provides a number of areas of dentistry, according to Ms Geisel.
"We provide dental care for the whole family," she said.
"All our staff have or are working towards a Certificate III."
The clinic is accredited with the National Safety and Quality Health Service standards and treats patients from Texas, Inglewood, Stanthorpe and Tenterfield.
Southern Downs Dental is open six days a week. Office manager Diane Coy said the clinic had appointments available. "We do our very best to slot in appointments on a day and times that fits," she said. To make an appointment phone 4661 1364.
