GOONELLABAH former Biggest Loser contestant Nathaniel Challenor has defended the show against claims by former host Ajay Rochester that it promotes dangerous weight-loss practices and featured fake weigh-ins.

Nathaniel who lost an astonishing 52.5kg in last year's season of the Channel Ten reality TV show, said his experiences under a different host and production company last year bore no resemblance to Rochester's tirade against the program.

In a posting on her blog, Los Angeles-based Rochester hit back at season one Biggest Loser winner Adro Sarnelli for comments he apparently made about her weight on Facebook.

She then created a stir by claiming the show's producers allowed him to weigh in behind closed doors and a few days before filming so contestants had time to recover and look healthy.

She also alleged another contestant drank bottles of tea tree oil to aid in dropping weight.

But Nathaniel said there were no sneaky tricks during his time on the show and he and the other 15 contestants had a lot of professional help to support them in losing weight in a healthy fashion.

He credits the show with curing him of his depression.

"Before going on this show it was work, eat, sleep. That was my life. I never went out. And after the show I've been on five holidays this year. I go to the beach ... things I've never done before," he said.

On one of those holidays to Fiji Nathaniel piled on 8kg in eight days, prompting him to join up with Biggest Loser trainer Michelle Bridge's online program to help get the weight back off.

The 20-year-old works at Coles at Lismore Shopping Square where he is frequently recognised by customers.
