It was a mighty swell at Evans Head

MAIN Beach at Evans Head was closed today thanks to large swells created by the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Winston.

That didn't stop the brave, or is it foolhardy, from still having a swim or a jet-ski on the river and across the dangerous bar.

Life savers from the Evans Head-Casino club were on hand but just shook their heads at those who ignored the warning and beach closed signs.

One life saver said they couldn't stop people from going into the water, but just recommend strongly against it.

He then said the volunteers would have to make the decision whether or not to risk their own lives if these swimmers, surfers and jet-skiiers got into trouble.

Be warned, however, the life savers would only go out to save lives, not assets, so if you get into trouble, you might be saved, but your expensive board or ski may not be making the trip back with you.
