Irvine leads the way with third century of the season

CASINO Cavaliers captain Sam Irvine scored his third century of the season in Far North Coast LJ Hooker League cricket at the weekend.

Irvine finished on 101 as Casino declared 8-251 against Pottsville in a two-day game at Queen Elizabeth Park, Casino.

He was supported in the middle order by Sam Dietrich (48) and Nicholas Ensby was unbeaten on 34.

Pottsville was up for the fight though, with opener Adam Rogers blasting 78 off 32 balls in the run chase.

He hit nine fours and five sixes as Pottsville finished 2-98 at stumps.

In other games, Ballina Bears are in a good position against Marist Brothers at Oakes Oval, Lismore.

All-rounder Sam Adams had Brothers reeling at 3-0 when he claimed the wickets of Ash Simes, Sam Martin and Blake Fitzgerald.

Brothers fought back before they were dismissed for 152 with Bears 2-66 in reply.

A determined effort at the tail end by Jared Seiffert (48) and Luke Hamshaw (42) helped the Brethren beyond 100.

Ballina spinner Jonny Phelps cleaned up the tail, taking four wickets.

Bears are definitely in the box seat with captain and top-order batsman Justin Moore back from NSW Country duty this weekend.

Elsewhere, Tintenbar- East Ballina has a game on its hands against Alstonville at Kingsford Smith Park, Ballina.

Alstonville is 3-73 after it dismissed the competition leaders for 220.

Spearhead Terry Murphy and Josh Pearce took three wickets each for Alstonville.

And Cudgen batted out 80 overs, finishing 8-323 against Lennox Head at Meagan Crescent Oval, Lennox Head.

Opener Caleb Ziebell set the tone with 82 and top-order batsman Tait Burns contributed with 58.

Cudgen captain Terry Wilson scored 51 at the tail end with Connor Zibell hanging around for a handy 26 to ensure Cudgen scored over 300 runs.

Lennox Head spinner Jordan Waugh bowled 33 overs and took two wickets along with all-rounder Adam Armistead and leg spinner Travis Clarke.

The Pirates welcome back captain and leading run-scorer Andrew Lindsay from the Australian Country Cricket Championships for the run chase this weekend.

Lindsay took two wickets for NSW Country when it Beat East Asia Pacific in a one-dayer yesterday.

It also beat Queensland Country in a two-day game on Saturday with another one-dayer against Victoria. Country to finish the competition today.
