Iran unveils what it claims to be a new fighter jet
IRAN has revealed a locally-produced fighter jet it claims can avoid detection.
President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad described the Qaher F313 - or Dominant F313 - as being comparable to the world's most sophisticated jets.
BBC News reported the president defending the new technology.
"The development of the Iranian nation's military power is for deterrence and defensive purposes," Mr Ahmedinejad said.
In footage aired on State-controlled television, the fighter was not shown taking off or landing.
The country has announced it will not showcase more of its "new achievements" until February 10 as government celebrates the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
