Passion leads mum into running for big financial reward

DIANNE Charman's committment to the Ipswich community has resulted in her being named as a finalist in the 2015 Women in Financial Services Awards for Financial Planner of the Year.

The principal adviser and managing director of Jade Financial Group at Mortimer Street, Ipswich, Ms Charman is part of a business that has been in the city for 30 years.

You only need five minutes talking with Ms Charman to know that she is thoroughly professional and totally passionate about her work.

"I am really excited to be nominated for this award and I know the other nominees, so it is great because none of us mind who wins," she said.

"At the end of the day it is a win for women working in this industry."

Ms Charman has a depth of experience in the industry, having worked with several major banks.

It was a visit with a financial planner that propelled her into her own career.

"Back in 1994 we decided to see a financial planner and I worked through a whole plan of where we needed to be," she said

"The planner was so impressed with what I had done he said that I should be doing this (financial planning)."

After conversations with her husband, Ms Charman decided that it would be something she could do from home while raising their children. Thus began a successful journey.

The business started out in the Northern Territory in 1998 and she has undertaken study and has a Diploma of Financial Planning and a Masters of Financial Planning.

According to Ms Charman it is important to keep pace with the changing financial landscape.

Jade Financial Group has been operating for six years, taking over from a well-established local firm operated by Ken Clift.

The business took out the Small Business of the Year Award in the Ipswich Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2014 and has been the recipient of a number of awards.

"We have been awarded the most trusted adviser, it is carried out by the Beddoes Institute. The award comes from what all of our clients say about us. You are only eligible if you get a rating of over 80% and we gained a score of 92.1 percent," Ms Charman said.

The award dinner will be held in Sydney this Thursday.
