Intruder nabbed in pink undies
A MAN was tied up wearing nothing but pink underwear after mistakenly breaking into the wrong house, the Tweed Heads Local Court was told yesterday.
Greenkeeper Luke John Mulheron was almost nude when found by the resident in his Falcon Way unit at 1am on January 2.
According to police documents tendered to the court, the 22-year-old Banora Point man was standing in the bathroom, underpants around his ankles, when confronted by the victim.
“You know me,” Mulheron said.
“I don’t know you,” the victim replied.
The victim grabbed Mulheron in an arm lock, wrestled him to the ground and with the help of his brother-in-law – who also lived at the premises – taped his arms and legs together before calling police.
Officers arrived at 1am to find Mulheron stomach down on the pavement at the back of the dwelling, wearing nothing but pink underwear.
He was arrested and taken to the Tweed Heads police station.
Mulheron pleaded guilty to entering the premises of a person without a lawfulexcuse.
Solicitor Kate Brady said Mulheron was embarrassed and humiliated by the incident.
She said Mulheron drank at the golf club where he worked from lunchtime until 9.30pm on the day of the incident, before walking to his friend’s house at the same gated community as the victim.
Ms Brady said Mulheron slept for an hour and decided to walk to his home, but when it started raining he changed his mind and int-ended to return to his friend’s house.
Mulheron was fined $400, plus $76 in court costs, and must pay $50 compensation for a broken flyscreen at the victim’s unit.
