Injury blow for Bogut, but it's not all bad for Aussies

BASKETBALL: Boomers star Andrew Bogut is set for a stint on the sidelines after being injured in the Dallas Mavericks' game with the Charlotte Hornets.

Bogut is waiting on the results of an MRI to find out the extent of the damage after hyper-extending his knee in the first quarter after Hornets big man Justin Anderson sent the Australian centre flying.

Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said Bogut was expected to miss the next three games at least "and probably longer”, depending on the scan results.

"We'll know more later,” Carlisle said.

"My understanding is that this is not going to be terribly serious.

"He's going to miss some time. We'll probably know better in a day or two how much time.”

Meanwhile, Bogut's Australian teammate Patty Mills looks set to benefit from Tony Parker's latest injury setback with the San Antonio Spurs.

Mills has been in good form, starring in Parker's absence last week with a team-high 23 points in 29 minutes against Dallas before backing that up with 10 points and eight assists in a win over Washington.

Parker returned from injury against Milwaukee but then hurt his knee and is expected to out for an extended period, giving Mills the chance to impress again.

Mills' season has been one of his best in the NBA so far, averaging 11 points from 23.5 minutes per game.
